SECTIONA: COMPULSORY
Question 1
The status of health has a significant impact on the overall development of a country.
Historically, health comprised of three main traditional indicators, mainly: medical
advancement in the prevention and treatment of disease, access to health facilities
and services, and longevity. Today, the term health has gained more and broader
indicators with a focus on decent housing, decent employment, freedom from
discrimination and climate change. Review the reasons and implications for this
broader definition of health.

SECTIONB: CHOOSEONE OF THE TWO QUESTIONS
Question 2
Indigenous knowledge is an integral part of culture and history of local communities
with the possibility to enrich the development process in Africa. However, the
advancement of western and modern value systems results in unfair competition and
disregard for African traditional norms and values, which compromises the overall
development of Africa. Assessthe value of this statement.

People-centered development is about the active participation of affected
communities in the development process, from the beginning of the process to the
end. Participation is viewed differently by different people. Some view it as a means to
empowerment, whilst others view it as an end to empowerment. The latter view
implies that participation is empowerment. Which view do you agree with and why?
