According to the World Food Programme {2024), about half of the Southern African
population, which is more than 30 million people, have been affected by the drought
caused by El Nino. This led to the declaration of state of national disaster due to drought
in four countries, namely: Namibia, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Basedon the above,
answer the following questions:
a) With motivation, identify and describe the origin and category of the above-
mentioned disaster.

countries due to their vulnerability. Namibia like any other country is affected by climate
change with subsistence farmers mostly affected due to the nature of their livelihoods.
