Question 1
Namibia is a signatory to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction which has
four priorities for action. In the same vein, the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6)
has four interrelated pillars. Identify these pillars and discuss how they can assist in
achieving the priorities for the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction. Motivate
your answer with relevant examples.

Question 2
TorqAid is a participatory humanitarian practice based in Australia which focuses on
training, consultancy, and research on emergency and disaster risk management. It
developed several diagrams to depict what occurs at different stages of the Disaster Risk
Management (DRM) Cycle for both slow and fast onset hazards. With an example of a
recent disaster/s, explain the three key stages of the TorqAid DRM cycle (either for slow
or fast onset hazards) and discuss what happens at each stage.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2015 by the United Nations "as a
universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people
enjoy peace and prosperity". Each goal has several targets and indicators. Identify any five SDGs
and discuss how your identified SDGs can contribute to disaster risk reduction in your country
of your choice.

Question 4
Hazards come in different forms and from different sources. Discuss different types of hazards
as well as their origin. Further, indicate where these hazards became disasters recently. [25]
Question 5
Osire refugee camp is home to about 5000 people. According to the United Nations
Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), refugees in camps need to be managed
properly. Use the concept of Camp Coordination and Camp Management Model to
explain how refugees at Osiree refugee camp should be managed.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) recognized close link
between Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA). Identify
policies in Namibia that are aimed at DRR and those aimed at CCA. Discuss the link
between these two policy instruments and discuss activities that can be implemented to
achieve objectives of these two policies.
