QUESTION 1 (Principles of Wildlife Management)
1.1. Explain the concept of Adaptive Management and its application in wildlife (15)
management and provide details of its importance towards the management of
wildlife resources.
1.2. Physical management of wildlife is complex and can be done in various ways.

Assess each of the management strategies below and decide how you will
manage wildlife under each strategy, and why.
1.2.1 A small trophy hunting farm of 3,000 hectares in the central shrub (5)
and tree savanna of Namibia.
1.2.2 A multi-use conservation landscape, such as the Etosha South- (8)
West Landscape, which includes Etosha National Park, Etosha
Heights Private Reserve, commercial farms and communal
conservancies.

With reference to the Wildlife Census you conducted at B2Gold's Otjikoto Nature Reserve,

3.1. Human-wildlife conflict in Namibia takes many forms. Discuss two specific human- (10)
wildlife conflict types which threaten human livelihoods and wildlife populations,
and how they should be mitigated.
3.2. The Revised National Policy on Human Wildlife Conflict Management is based on (10)
several fundamental principles. Discuss those principles and indicate how they
intend to ensure wildlife preservation in Namibia.

Discuss wildlife as an economic commodity in Namibia. Refer to the following using (20)
examples where appropriate: (a) types of wildlife use, (b) effects on the national

conservation challenges that a focus on wildlife economics bring and (f) threats to
realising the full economic potential from wildlife use.
