QUESTION 1

You are working in a company that is producing fountain pens. You were part of the
research team which identified the opportunity to develop a new pen which used way less
ink and is more sustainable. The senior leaders have nominated you to follow this
opportunity with a project team. You will be the project leader and you can choose a team
of experts that will directly reporting to you and have no other daily tasks. You have full
project authority and can take the decision in order to bring this concept to an actual
sellable product.
1.1 Explain what type of project organization was adopted?

The National Planning Commission of Namibia is managing multiple multibillion dollar
projects under different bilateral and multilateral agreements between the Namibian
Government and other Governments. At the recent stakeholder consultations of updating
the National Development Plan 6, stakeholders raised concerns about the non-alignment of
the reporting and status quo update tools and techniques of these projects being
implemented under different Organizations Ministries and Agencies (OMAs). Further stating
that this results in ineffective and inefficiencies within the organisations.
2.1 As an expert on Project Management. Clearly elaborate what a Project Management
Office (PMO) is and elaborate on the importance of PMOs.

2.2 Propose how developing such offices can contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency
in reporting and updates in the different OMAs with examples.

The newly appointed cabinet of Namibia has seen the need for leadership seminars to
capacitate different leaders who stepped into their roles as of 21 March 2025. This was due
to the results of a work place environment survey undertaken late November 2024 which
proofs an increase in complaints within the ministerial offices in terms of leadership styles
of different leaders. You have been selected to conduct this seminar. In your own words
give a detailed discussion on what leadership is, skills needed for effective leadership, as
well as the different styles of leadership, further, explain the leadership style you would
prefer on a project environment and why?
